Food for your mood: Nice Cream

If you know me, you know I love ice cream, Ben and Jerry’s phish food to be exact- I don’t love the sugar headache that follows.

This plant based ice cream alternative is delicious and hits the spot. Don’t get me wrong, a hot summer day calls for the real thing. If you’re looking to avoid processed sugar, headaches, crashes, leaky gut, mood swings and STILL satisfy your cravings at the same time this if for you.

In order to sustain healthy habits and create a lifestyle rather than follow a “protocol” beware of deprivation! This recipe creates a happy medium and with incredible soothing properties.

here are some fun facts for ya:

  • Bananas contain tryptophan a type of protein that converts to serotonin, ya know the neurotransmitter that is considered a “natural mood stabilizer.”

  • Cacao is a superfood well known for supporting the body and your mind, full of antioxidants.  Cacao contains PEA (or phenethylamine), which activates the release of endorphins and mood-enhancing neurochemicals in our brains.

Ingredients:

  • 3 frozen bananas ( peeled and cubed, frozen)

  • splash of almond milk

  • 1 scoop of chocolate protein powder or scoop of raw cacao

  • optional: 1 scoop collagen ( I love primal kitchen vanilla coconut)

  • 2 Tbs creamy peanut butter/ or any nut butter of your choice

  • dark chocolate chips

Instructions:

  • blend all ingredients and leave out the chocolate chips

  • once you have a thick and smooth consistency fold in chocolate chips

  • enjoy right away or store in the fridge for 30 mins/ pop back in the freezer
